Hello folks,

Buying my first corvette and found a very nice 2002 coupe. The owner has installed a cold air intake system, long tube headers,a Corsa Indy exhaust system. He has not gotten a full tune up done after installing the above, but the shop put it on a dyno, tweaked the fuel/air mixture and said that was enough. I looked at the charts and it shows that the fuel/air graph is kinda haphazard and wavy and not smooth. The owner says that the measuring things was maybe not inserted properly. Thecar is otherwise very very meticulously been mantained.

my questions are:
  1. Is this possible?
  2. Would this have caused and long term damage?
  3. How much does a full engine tune up cost?

Really appreciate your time helping me out. My fingers are crosed and hopefullythis car will work out.

Thanks
Boomie

Yes it is possible.  If the engine runs really lean it could hurt durability but that is doubtful. Does it throw codes?  If so, then it is out of range, otherwise the waveness as a function of RPM is not too serious.  Drive it, from dead cold (sitting overnight) with it in a condition that the check engine light is off (i.e., all codes cleared), if it warms up fully and you drive it softly and hard and lug it near idle to run it flat out to full RPM and let it really work out, and it throws no codes, it is okay.

A dyno-tune is typically $400-$600. Save your pennies!
