This is my first post, I bought a 1992 six-speed a month ago, and the transmission has begun making a grinding noise intermittently. I have driven it about 1000 miles since than and never had a problem until yesterday. The grinding noise occurs with the clutch pedal fully depressed and the 1st or 2nd gear selected. I noticed the problem while rolling to a stop from 20-30mph. And it seems to occur more frequently when rolling over a bump.
I had the dealership look at it and their transmission guy says he heard the problem but from talking to the service rep it doesn''t sound like they are confident it''s even a problem.
I''m looking for suggestions as to what might be the cause. The dealership is willing to drop the transmission and take a look at it but just to drop it I''m out 600 bucks and I''m not confident they know what they are looking for.
Alternately if anyone has recommendations for someone around the twin cities that would have a better knowledge of this transmission it would be appreciated.
