Hey Guys,

78 Corvette 350cid, Has been running great.
Now after it heats up it cranks over like the battery is dead, after it cools it cranks right up again.
Alternator is charging and battery is 4 months old and been tested. OK

I can only think of timing but don''t want to rip the engine apart until I speak to the experts. YOU.
Any advise would be helpful. Thanks

A weak starter will act up when hot.  :)  They lose torque (and struggle to turn) when the heat causes resistance in the internal windings.

If the timing hasn''t been changed, then I agree w/ Bill.  But if timing is a tad too advanced, the engine will be hard to start when hot.

They sell heat wrap for starters online.
Held on by velcro to the starter.
I here it works ok.

I agree with the old/weak starter diagnosis. Either a new replacement starter or a high torque mini starter (made for high heat applications) should solve the problem. One other area often overlooked is the condition of the battery cables and the cleanlines/tightness of the connections. Loose, dirty or frayed battery cables will contribute to resistance in the circuit and make it harder for the battery and starter to do their jobs.

Very true, it''s a good time to look over the entire system so as NOT to overlook any possible weak link.  It''s a simple fix, but can be a pain when you''re left on the road.
