thanks for the advice, what ideas do you all have on cranking more hp out of these low power motors?

Depends upon your budget. First things that come to mind are cam, intake, and headers/exhaust.

Hi again, if you want a little more power you might want to start by re-curving the distributor, that''s cheep and effective. You''ll need to buy or borrow a timing light and get the "Accel" kit from you auto parst store. If you don''t know what I mean just ask, someone will guide you thru it.
Just wondering, what did you find out about the stumble when you step on it? PG.

Depending on how stock you want your car to look some simple changes can make a lot of performance improvement.
A K&N AIR FILTER the one that lets the air through the top is good for 5-10hp the manufactures says.
I have one one my Camaro and it works real good. I plan to put one on my Vet soon
Getting rid of backpressure is another way of recouping lost HP.
there are many good exaust systems on the market.
A good Comp Cam and good matching springs can up you as much as 50-60-HP

I have yet to find out whats causing the drop in rms when i step on it, i have been trying to sell my 4cly race car so havent had time to look in to it, i think i will deff. get a k&n air filter, as for exhuast i think i might look into hooker headers, and straight pipe into a high flow exhuast and move the pipes out the side, im not much of a mech so im not sure what the dist. deal is and for the cam i will prob have to get a pro to do that. thanks again for all your help, once i look into the drop in rpms ill let you all know.

You can recurve your distributor w/ a timing lite and the kit PG mentioned. Basically the stock curve doesn''t let all of the mechanical advance in ''til around 4,000 rpm. You can pick up some zip by lowering this to around 2,500.

Re: Hooker headers - Are you talking about the side-mount style commonly referred to as "nest of snakes"?

All correct replies; The pump plunger will wear or even crack from dryness over time and won''t seal in it''s cylinder order to get a good shot of fuel to the venturies. The pump gives a smooth transition between the low speed fuel circuit and the high speed fuel circuit giving that shot of fuel, filling the gap, where you''d otherwise get a bog from a lean (no) fuel situation.
