Well I guess it was bound to happen at some point...I''m having automatic transmission problems! I was driving home and got on the freeway, the tranny shifted fine into all 4 speeds, got off the freeway and stopped at a light. When the light turned green I went and my transmission shifted into second like I had the pedal to the floor! It hit about 2200-3000 rpm before it shifted hard like I was mashing on it! I now does that going into all four speeds no matter if I''m light or heavy on the gas. Correct me if I''m wrong, but didn''t the C4 (1984-1992) come with the 700-R4 until they went to the 4L60E??? And I also know that the 700-R4 had governor gear problems as in it stripped a lot? So that''s what I was thinking it may be. But not sure and I''m sure there is someone on the forum with A LOT more transmission background then me! ANY Ideas/help Is much appreciated!!! Thank you guys and gals!!!

Sounds like limp home mode, from torque convertor slippage. As far as I know, only 4L60e does that tho''... Tranny fluid pressure cranks way up, and causes hard shifting. Disconnect the battery, and see if the shift mode cycles back to normal for a few trips...

I was thinking something along those lines too cwb, but then I found out that its fully hydraulic. But I taked to on of my instructors at school, he worked for GM for 25yrs and he told me that a lot of the 700r4s had this problem. It was the throttle valve! He told me just to move the TB plates to WOT a couple of time with the engine off to unstick the throttle valve and then test drive it! It worked!!! The bad thing is that he said it most likelygot stick from a sliver of metal shavings in the trans and will probably need a rebuild soon. The car does have 90k on it so you know how that goes. But in the mean time I''m going to replace the filter and the trans fluid and take it from there!
