I just recently got a 1980 L82 Vette. It is running a little rough and think that I might have a bad plug. How is the best way to change the plugs w/o putting it on a lift? Also, what are you guys suggestions on the type of oil, plugs, wires and over all care? Thanks a lot

hi, a good thing to do is take a compression test so you no how much compression you have.then check you fuel system. fuel will make the car run rough,check for vacume leakes around the intake and carb, and vacume lines check fuel filter.then check plugs.do you have headers.i use a 5/8 socket with a hex end so you can put a wrench on the end.some time a ratchet will not fit or clear the headers. so you need that socket.i like ngk plug platnum.i like msd 8.8 or 8.0 spark plug wires you can buy a perform upgrade kit for 60.00 bucks comes with a brass cap and rotor.spring kit,vacume advance valve,high performance coil 55.000 volts and a new modual..and i like to use a synthetic oil like ams oil or mobil 1.or red line oil. or royle purple oil, any of those are good a k&n air filter is a good choice,it is a life time filter. i was wondering if you have a rochester carberator on that engine .

Hi, I just had the same problem on my 82, replaced cap, rotor, coil, and plugs ( I used all Accel parts ) but still no change. Decided to also replace wires before going thru the fuel system. when I removed the heat shields from the foward two plugs I found 1 wire dry rotted and badly cracked, Replaced wires over top instead of under (as stock was ). fired it up and it ran smooth again. car only has 39,000 miles on it , all parts replaced were factory, I guess sitting is just as bad as over use !!!

Thanks for all the info., it going to be some big help this weekend when I tackle the car. Iam not sure what type of carberator is on it. Is there any easy way to find out? The car has been setting for about 3 years so the fuel could be the problem. I'll get back to let you know my progress. Thanks again!!!

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

It cold be the gas but it has more of a repetative "miss" to it. Thats why Iam thinking it could be a wire or plug. Does that sound right?

ya, gas would have more of a stumble , and spark would have more of a skip,run the car and start pulling wires of the plugs,other words pull number 1 plug wire off of plug and see if makes a difrence, then put back on and pull #2 wire and do soforth and so on,when you pull the wire off the motor shoul;d skip if dosent then that is the cylinder that is skiping plug or wire be carfull not to get a shock.
