New paint job questions

I'm considering repainting my 92. I'll keep it red, maybe a slight variation from the stock red. There are price ranges from professionals ranging from $600 to over $2000. I don't want to go cheap, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg either. Is there a way for me to prep the car myself? I've considered sanding it all down and adding primer myself. A friend of mine had a local guy do his 71 Firebird for $400, but he did all the sanding/buffing/clearcoat stuff himself. His looks absolutely wonderful (gold metallic). I'd like to go the same route, but I'm concerned about the fiberglass vs. standard sheetmetal. Anybody have experience with this?

I got a quality respray of my front bumper with clear for $200 (at a discount), so $400 for an entire car sounds scary to me

Just the paint alone will cost more than $400.00. I believe even Earl Shibe or Macowould charge more than that. Something sounds fishy to me. Do some investigating before you commit and make sure who ever paints it puts flex agent in every mix they do.

Good luck with it, Cheers.
