engine heating problems

I have a '65 Roadster with a 300 hp small block and auto transmission. In warm weather, like summertime, the engine temp runs 200 to 210 degrees. I can't make myself believe that this is design temp for the engine. I have a stock radiator that I have had out of the car and cleaned and boiled out. The water pump seems to be doing its thing and I have a new fan clutch. It has a 190 degree thermostat in it. Is there a coolant that will help with the engine temp? I want to keep the car stock so an aluminum radiator would be like a last resort. I would appreciate any info available. Thanks for the reply. John

hi john, try redline water wetter,it will drop temp 20 deg,and try a 180 thermostat, that should help.and make shure your cap is in good shape, and you have no air in system.:D

In the 60's, they did not run that hot of thermostat. 200 degrees with a 190 degree thermostat is not uncommon. I would change to a 160 degree stat, make sure there is good airflow to your radiator and try the wetter chemical. [8D]
