1979 corvette not down shifting
 

I bought a 1979 corvette a few weeks ago and I am working on bringing it back to life. It had been sitting in a garage for the last 3 years so it needs some TLC. I put a new holley carb on it last week and it runs great but when I floor it the carb opens up but the car does not down shift. I can down shift automaticaly and it gets up and goes really good. Does this sound like a tranny problem or a carb adjustment? I hooked the tranny linkage up to the new carb like the last one and the guy I bought it from said it used to work fine. Any ideas.

It sounds like your downshift cable it out of adjustment, since you can downshift manually I don't think it's the carb or trany. PG

Thanks. I have a haynes manual and I will see if it is in there how to adjust it.

Is it a Turbo 400 or a Turbo 350? The passing gear rod should contact the throttle arm at almost full throttle and only should move a short distance. Also the throttle valve mightbe stuck in the trans. If so, might need to take it to a transmission shop and ley them fix that.
