1980 Vett Wheels, Shine

I am looking to polish, shine up my 1980 vett wheels, they are shinny already, but not "brightly". Looking closley, you can see stuff still in it, differant colors, etc.

I have used Mothers alumuium polish with a terry cloth, and poishing wheel, but they still look like they need quite a bit of work. Having a hard time to find someone to polish them locally, so I guess I will have to do it.

Reading on the forums here, I found someone telling me to use "Aircraft Remover" to ensure there is no clear coat on them, then to simply wet sand it using 1500 grit, then a buffing compound and they should have a mirror finish then.

BEFORE I do that, I want to know what other people suggest etc. Make sure I am not trashing a wheel etc!

Suggestions please.

Abuffing compound should do the trick, I don't really like the idea of using sand paper, no matter how fine the grit.

First before you can restore the shine, you have to remove any clearcoat on the wheels. After that, it's just a matter of cleaning and buffing to restore a chrome like appearance. The guy that did my valve covers glass beaded them first and then buffed using finer and finer compounds. They look great!
