2 or 4 Bolt Main in 1969 350

I have an engine casting number of 3956618 on a 350/350 dated 2/18/69. My question is: Is this a 2 or 4 bolt main motor? I can't seem to find any info on this. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Double check that casting number, according to MorTec, that is a 4 bolt main 1969 302ci engine from a Z-28 Camaro run.

Chevrolet produced a special 302 inĀ³ (4.9 L) engine for Trans Am racing. It was the product of placing the 3-inch stroke crankshaft from a 283 into a 4-inch bore 327 block. This engine was only used in the first-generation Camaro Z28. Conservatively rated at 290 hp (216 kW), actual output was at least 320 hp (239 kW). This block is one of 3 displacements that underwent a transformation for the 1968/1969 period when the main bearing size was increased from 2.30 in to 2.45 in.

If no one has messed with that engine, and it is really a 302... you have a gem on your hands. :)

Thanks for getting back to me. It is in a numbers matching 69 Corvette convertible I just bought. The casting number was hard to see - it was either 3956618 or 8956618. Could it have been the latter? A Camaro engine wouldn't be in a Vette would it? Thanks.

Found it. :) The 3956618 castings were used for several engines, depending on the crank (stroke) used. That casting for a 350 was used in both a 2bolt and 4bolt setup.

3956618....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3956618....327...68-69...2
3956618....350.....69....2 or 4

Damn. I was really hoping you found a 302 numbers matching in a Vette. :P That would have been way cool.

Hi guys,
Way cool! To say the least wouldn't that make it one of one?
Did GM ever put a 302 in a Vette?

The Corvette manual I have, lists the 305, and 350. That's for '80.

Stranger things have happened. :) All of the US manufacturers have at times placed the "wrong" engine in a couple cars during a production run. The example I used of the Hemi-cuda convertible is one. There were some rare "optioned" Corvettes along the line as well back in the muscle car days. L88's from 67-69 (only 216 of those), and then there is the ZL1. :) It wouldn't be unheard of for an engine to be "misplaced" between factories, especially when the casting numbers and external appearance are identical. :) I once saw a 401 ci factory engine in a 74 bricklin, though the 360 AMC was the only option officially available.

High Starship, but didn't 69 start with 327?

wrwalke is actually a user-id that was given to me waaaaaaay back in ancient history by the Navy. :) Easy for me to remember and my fingers are used to typing it after 20 years. First initial, middle initial, first five letters of the last name.

Bricklin was a Canadian made car. It was built from mostly Detroit parts (the Frankenstein car), and was owned by Malcom Bricklin (the man who brought us the Yugo as well). They made about 2800 cars between 74 and 76. Acrylic body, gullwing doors, and lots of very cool features.

http://www.bricklin.org/ has lots of info. :) Here is a pic of mine "before"... If I am a good boy this year, my wife might let me finish it this winter. She can't see over the wheel wells of the Vette. :) I'm thinking an LS2 to replace the icky Ford 351w would be an excellent start.
