202 HEADS

I have a buddy who is telling me he has a set of 202 fuelie heads. I haven't seen them yet but he tells me they are off of an old vette engine and swears they the 202 heads. How do I tell if they are indeed 202 heads and how much would they be worth, I have no idea if he has any of the valve train or valves with them. I am pretty sure that they are just bare heads. He told me he would trade me for an old Bowflex workout machine I have been thinking of upgrading. If indeed they are the real mccoy, I may trade him and buy a shortblock stroker motor and build from there. That would be way cool! I don't want to get started or I won't sleep tonite.

As I remember,......I think the 202's have a casting mark on either end of the head. It's a rectangle with a hump on each end/ top of the rectangle, called them "Double Humpers"!
Yes, fuelies! Trade for a bowflex? IN A HEARTBEAT!!!;)

RE: 202 HEADS

I pulled a pair of those heads of a 327 I had last year. I went to have them redone and the cost was up there do to the fact they ran on leaded gas and so on.
I wound up selling them for a hundred bucks and put the cash towards a new pair of aluminum heads.
I think it was a real good move.
If you want an engine to breath you need really good heads.

If you find any more of those heads, let me know. I can deal with the "prob"!;)

202 heads were great back in the sixties when compression was 11:1 and you ran solid lifters and 100 octane.
Today it's all about aluminum heads and lower compression ratios. My Z/28 has a compression ratio of 9:6:1 and I put down 20 feet of tire in 4th gear. No stock Z/28 could ever do anything close to that type of performance.
In order to rework the 202 heads to get even close to that kind of performance we are talking new everything.
If I find a pair I will let you know.

No offence schoon, I just know what works for me.
202 refers to the size of the exhaust valves. 2.02 in.
Take those heads, new seats, springs and valves, port and polish.
Now, that small block will breath like a dragon, you will throw flames.;)
Comp. comes from the pistons/stroke.
The down side is that they are a little heavier than aluminum heads. So take out the spare tire.:)
Makin' an engine run, is all about breathin', and 202's can breath!
I'm a '60's motor head, and will remain. I really don't care for the new elec. B.S., too many probs with them.
If your new car stalls on the freeway, you need a 'puter tech, just to tell you what's wrong. A screwdriver, 9/16 and 1/2 in. wrench just don't work anymore. I've gotten my car going by useing pocket change for a screw driver.
Ya, I'll give $100 all day long for a set of 202's!

I totally agree there, Dave. Our buddy back yonder had a 350 with a set of ported and polished 2.02's on it, cam, headers, etc. That thing could HONK! You could actually HEAR that thing breath.... I swear, bro, it was alive. :D
