71 composit mono spring?
Greetings.
I'm considering upgrading my stock spring with a composit, however, I'm concerned about their reliability. The metal leaf style should maintain somewhat if one leaf breaks, but if one composit leaf gives-out at 75mph, what happens then?? Does anyone have information on reliability of composit mono springs and which brand seems most reliable? Have any composits broken on the road? What happened? Does anyone on this forum recommend these things or not? Thank you. Tony |
RE: 71 composit mono spring?
I just finished a complete undercarriage restoration on my 72. I was told to go back with the stock 7 or 9 leaf spring and to stay away from the composit spring. I did use the 9 leaf spring and have no complaints with the outcome. Do not really remember why my friend pointed in the directrion, but took his advise.

RE: 71 composit mono spring?
the composit spring tends to get stress cracks, thus weaking the spring and then you get saging,[:o]
