'78 Ground Straps?
I have a '78 body going out for paint. I removed these 'ground straps' from the wiper valley behind the debris screens on each side. I took them to be re-plated for corrosion protection. Turns out the connectors were aluminum and they dissolved in the acid wash at the platers. I am left with just the steel braid. I am trying to find replacements but they are not showing up when I search for ground straps. Anyone know what these are called?

Maybe you could replace the ends with heavy duty copper connectors.

That will probably be the path I take. Thanks for the reply.

Did you try Paragon?
|
Yes. Paragon, and all other suppliers, have a kit with three ground straps that are the flat, braded copper. These are installed near the power antenna, in the lower left of the engine compartment and from the motor to the frame.
The two that I am looking for wiper plenum where any rain water drains down. They are made from stainless braid and aluminum for corrosion protection, I assume. |
Not sure why they would use aluminum terminals as when aluminum oxidizes, it forms a non-conductive layer. You could try checking with Contemporary Corvettes as they are a salvage yard and might have what you are looking for.
