Alarm Horn
 

My alarm horn for my 72 quit working. Can't seem to find the exact replacement (has a long cone shaped horn). Can these be rebuilt or do I just trash it and buy a regular horn like an A note to replace it? Also need to know how to test a headlight vacuum actuator to ensure it still works before reinstalling it. Would hate to put it in and have to take it back out and replace it. Thought someone might have a sure fire way to test it out side the car. All help is greatly appreciated. Nearing the completion of this restoration and know the best advice is right here.

I've only seen the horns on ebay. I think that 68-75 (73 maybe?) used the same horns:

You can test an actuator by attaching a short hose and sucking on it. :) Once you have moved the actuator, use your tongue to block the hose, and make sure that the actuator stays where it is (not leaking around the diaphragm).

Thanks for the info Bill. I have my horn apart right now and can't see anything out of place, not that I know what I am looking for, but I was hoping there was something I could do to repair it. The horn is in excellent shape and would hate to replace if not needed. Also thanks for the tip on the actuator I will give it a try when I get off work.

Test the horn off a car battery and 2 jumper wires and see if it works.It may well work and you have a bad ground or hot lead.I would lean more to a bad ground . good luck

Mike try the horn on a car battery with 2 jumper wires to make sure it is the horn.If it works then you have a pos. lead or ground problem.Being a vette I would lean to the ground.

Check to see that you are getting voltage to the horn when the system is activated and a door is opened. If not, then you need to check the alarm relay to see that it is getting voltage at both the coil leads and the relay contacts.
