Anybody Know How I Got An LT1 in MY 69 convertable
 
Got this car from A school teacher in N/ MI. don't think he knew what he had . Its got A factory LT1 motor and all the #s match . I thought this motor was introduced in 1970. Just like to know what you guys think ?

The only thing I can think of is that they ran '69 production into '70 for a while. Don't remember the exact causes, but maybe that explains it?

Check your VIN and see if it is a late 69 production car. I suppose that anything is possible. The 69 production run went into December of 69. The strike pushed the introduction of 70 models back until January of 1970. If the engine is a genuine LT1 it is a fluke. If it is one of the last cars built, it is possible that GM was out of L46's (350/350) and used the LT1. Block, head and manifold casting numbers and dates will give you a better idea. Good Luck.

The LT1 was introduced in 1970. It was a mechanical lifter small block motor with Transistor Ignition, Holly Carb, & a 4speed that rated at 370HP in 1970. From outward appearences it looks just like the rest of the small block motors except for valve covers, carb and the decal on the air cleaner. It was a very desireable motor in 1970 and also today. Easily imitated but rarely duplicated.

How do you know it is an LT1?
Have you pulled the engine and disassembled it?
What is the part number on the cam?
What type of heads are on it?
What are the part numbers and casting dates on the aluminum manifold?
What is the engine code on the Block? An LT1 should have a CTU or CTK engine code. CTU for early builds and CTK for late 70 builds.

If you have a 69 with an original LT1 motor you have a very valuable car. It is the only one ever made. I would have it documented by a quality Corvette restorer and an NCRS master judge as it could be worth in the 7 figure range if it is legit.

In all likelyhood it is a LT1 clone. Someone has put an LT1 manifold, solid lifters, vaslve covers, hood and decals to imitate an LT1. But you never know. Get it checked out and let us know.

I know Ford did that alot, I hope you have a genuine LT-1, it would be worth alot of money!!!
