Brake light is on :-(

I replaced the e-brake system from the front cable back on an 81 Vette and since then the brake light on the console stays on. Is there something that I can reset to turn it off?

I think it may have come on because the pedal went to the floor when I first tried the brakes. The slack in the rear pads had to be taken back up, but the pedal is solid now and the brakes work just fine. Plenty of fluid in the master cylinder. Plenty of pad all around?

How do I test the switch for the e-brake handle?

Thanks,

Ron Madurski

iT SEEMS THAT YOU HAVE TWO DIFFRENT PROBLEMS, THE HAND BRAKE OR E-BRAKE IS A DIFFRENT SYSTEM FROM THE HYD. BRAKES. THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE IN COMMON IS THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS. IF THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR THERE IS A PROBLEM SOMEWHERE IN THE HYD. SYSTEM. THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT ASAP, THIS IS ONE SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO WORK 100% OF THE TIME. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Nope, just one problem. The brakes work fine. The pedal sinking initially was to take up the slack from spreading the pads apart to get them back over the rotor. I think it is the e-brake switch. It had done this before but I was able to clear it up by jiggling the switch. That didn't work this time.

Find your proportioning valve, not sure of location, but the lines from your dual well master cylinder should lead to it. There should be a switch in the middle of the valve that should close when your brake pedal goes to the floor. Unplug the wire to the switch and see if the light goes out. If it does, you will have to replace the proportioning valve as the switch is shorted to ground. [8D]
