dash light trouble

Hello all!, New member here with lots of little problems on my 82. Most recent, my dash( speed and tac) back lights worked fine at first, but now when i turn the head lights on i now have no back light , yet both turn signal arrow stay lit. Could this be simple bulb replacement or something more??

RE: dash light trouble

I had a similar problem with my 82 Dash lights came on and didn’t go off even with the light switch and key in the off position this icluded the turn single lights. It turned out to be the gauge cluster printed circuit. Age starts to delaminate them and can cause the copper filament that’s between the layers to peel and touch other filaments or cause shorts and/or dash lights to behave in a bizarre manor. Pull out the gauge cluster (speedometer and tach) unplug the wire bundle turn on the lights check the center consol to see if your light is on. Due this with your center consol as well and see if the lights come on in the speedometer/tach cluster. Then do check of the printed circuits you find it delams mostly around the edges. You might need to release the speedometer cable in the back the cluster it doesn’t screw on there a release that you will be able to feel with fingers. Also make sure fuse is good it blew with short any doing that check would be useless. could I also believe there is a single small wire back attach to the cluster. Any questions just write god luck:eek:
