differential hp rating?
 
ok i started wondering since i am dropping in this engine with "550+"hp to the crank will my trans hold up its the 700r4
what if any will have to do to the rearend i here the drive line is rated at just under 400 hp.
i have rebuilt all calipers and changed out the rotors for the sloted&drilled goodness. thay stopped way better then when i got the car

A stock 700r4 is rated at 300 HP and 370 ft-lbs of torque. There are a ton of high performance versions out there at up to 800 crank HP and 1000 ft-lbs of torque (Pheonix, Raptor, TCI), check out Jegs and Summit to see some of the options.

Auburn and Richmond (among others) make beefy versions of the Dana 44. Check those out as well. Your U-joints will take a beating, as will the yoke and strap. I would seriously think about buying some "race parts" from someone like Duntov for that piece of the puzzle. :D

ok i know the trans would have to go but how do i build the rear end should i swap out the whole thing and if so with what something from an older vette 78'

what are some weak point this diff. that keeps the power rating at 400hp?
where can i find a built 1 that will handle my new engine?

Search for "dana 44, torque, price" on Google. You'll find lots of shops that use the high end parts to get better power. The gears in a normal diff are just hardened steel. The higher end ones use special alloys and treated steel components, along with thicker gear bases and shafts to keep it in one piece.

When I build up a car, I always start at the wheels and work back to the engine... and start at the bottom end of the engine and work up. Of course, you could just toss in the new lump (engine) and roll the dice, knowing that a couple pieces in the back end might let loose. :) As long as you make sure you have good u-joints, good straps and bolts on the yokes, and a solid diff case, any damage should be limited to the "guts of the pumpkin", and then only if you hammer the heck out of the new engine and really push the moving parts past the limit.

Oh yeah, I mentioned Duntov without giving a link. :D I got some great suspension parts from these folks to beef up my front end. They also have rear end suspension and drivetrain goodies.
