Sounds like your primary float is set to high, very easy to check.
Also could be your power valve, also easy to check.
I just got done fixing my 74 and I had similar problems.
All fixed now.

Ahem.

Mr. Stehr, you got duplicate posts here

https://www.corvetteforums.com/m_374..._/tm.htm#37485

and there no reason for a re-plyerto ask questions that someone else has already asked.

If we could close one of 'em there, mods...
You're fast....can't get one by you, huh?

Are your tail pipes black at the ends? Like it's running too rich? If the choke staysopen after the engine warms up, it will load up and want to stall until you get the revs up and the engine can burn the extra fuel. I'd say the choke is sticking. On the no 1st. gear thing, I'd say that you're not in gear. You are still in neutral as there's no way that 1st. gear (1st. speed gear)just doesn't work sometimes. Check choke for "sticking open" and "shift linkage adjustment." My best diagnosis. Good luck.

Not to get technical TJ, but I think you meant to say check to see if the choke is sticking closed which would cause the rich condition like you said. Just wanted to be sure Rick looked for the right condition. :)

Yes, the butterfly stuck shut. I meant the choke hanging, continuing to work. You're right, my wording was poor. Thanks.
