The whole bumper or just the cover?

SCHOON 03-21-2009 08:04 AM

I guess it's just the cover.
Probably will also need to change the brackets etc.
The new covers are approx $300 online.
Looks like a bear to replace.

It's been a while since I had mine off for painting but as I remember, you just remove the grills to gain access to the nuts on the retainer bar. It will probably take a lot of rust penetrant like Kroil and may involve twisting off the studs to get the cover off. Of course that means a new set of retainer bars.

Page 14A-3 in the AIM shows an exploded view.

ha ha. Not an expanded or magnified view. An EXPLODED view. Admitedly, this may be a technical term that I just don't know, but it's still hilarious. :)

Exploded in the sense that the parts are shown displaced from their installed position. Not exploded in the sense of a nuclear weapon.

Ohhh. Okay. Thanks for the clarification. I know, it was a dumb thing to say, and I knew it at the time, it just seemed funny. Thanks for the exlpanation :)

Pulled old bumper off today, not an easy job.
Need to save old parts like rubber strips etc, they don't make a lot of the parts.
Tomorow I will try to fit the new bumper, stay tuned.

Tried to install new bumper today.
What a nightmare, would need to grind, bend, strech, drill and pray.
I was affraid that I would screw it up so I gave it to my buddy who is a professional body guy. (he warned me up front it takes a lot of exp to get it right)
Had no idea the new bumper would be so far off.
The instructions did say the odds are very low that you get a good fit.
I will send some pictures of the final product.
Looking to get the the car painted all black in near future.
