Hooker Super Comp. Headers (non sidemount)

Hi all,
A while back I was interested in buying the sidemounts for my red '76 (http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/l...zzy/My%20Cars/)
I cannot convince my dad to allow me to buy them, he thinks that the car looks better with undermounted pipes. My car has the numbers matching 350, and was wondering what the difference is between the 'Super Competition': http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

And the 'Competition' series: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

I really just want to make my car louder, so whichever can achieve that best I would like to go for.

After selecting a set of headers, I'm going to take the car to my local shop to do the exhaust tubing. Are mufflers recommended for the sound or..? What is the general consensus for making that mean, aggressive sound?

Thanks alot! [8D]

Ya want it LOUD?, don't put any pipes on your headers. ;)
The cops may not appreciate them.

Uncorked the headers on my '70 SS 454 Chevelle, police were not amused. They did ask for my autograph though. :D

I noticed that one set of header pipes were longer than the others.
Ya might concider possible prob with linin' up the longer pipes to pass through your tranny cross member.

Tell your dad that the Shark was designed for side exhausts, just check out the '69 style. ;) Now if that's not possible (like he owns the car [:o]) then probably the loudest undercar setup is chambered pipes like these: http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1777 or these: http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette-4-36-1293.html. Of course this option kisses the cat good-bye.

I did notice that the second set of referenced headers said they're for oval ports. SBCs of this era are square ports. The first set didn't say. If you decide to go this route, might give them a call to just make sure you're getting the right ones. Also noticed that one set was 16 ga and the other was 18 ga which is thicker which will last longer.

Good luck with whatever you (& your dad) decide with your mods. Let us know how it comes out and of course we always appreciate PICs.[sm=Flahssssss.gif]

Thanks for the replies.
My dad says that if I get sidepipes it will make me look like a wannabe 69-73 body style owner.

73 Shark,
The second set looks to be what I'm after. Would these be louder than a new set of headers and just straight pipes?

Hey! a vette's a vette and they all can pull off the look with sidepipes. and the C3 body lends itself to sidepipes better than any other. go for the sidepipes. it will look great. Cheers

.....and just how many people know what years of Vettes came with side pipes? :eek:I don't, but I'm still goin' with them on Me80C3. :)
Looks great, and sounds bad. ;)

Yeah! baby! sidepipes all around. Wide open side pipes! Screw them thumpin' stereos, I'd rather hear a fine tuned thumpin' big block thru a fat set of leg burners any day.

How could I get this sound out of my 76?

I like how it seems 'dry' and loud. I love a loud car :)

Hi Dj Envy, I have the MidAmerica under car duel chambered and it's plenty loud.
My 74 was not built with cats, if yours was you will not pass inspection. PG.

See my PM.

Does your dad know that the '76 was the only year to come with a Vega steering wheel? Small piece of trivia.
