Is Metallic Yellow code # 953 rare? Its more of a gold than yellow to me, can anyone shed some info on this color. If own one please let us see.

I checked out www.corvettemuseum.comand they had some good info (zip file)in the "archives" vetteset selection. No specific numbers for color codes for 1973 though.

Here's some trivia about the '73. I am still looking to answer your question about productuion numbers.
interesting note....after closer inspection of my '73 coupe it seems as though it was originally black. but according to this, black was not an option in '73. interesting. cheers

[ul][*]There were 4,943 Corvette Roadsters, and 25,521 Coupes produced for the Model year.[*]In the '73 model year there were 4,000 serial numbers that were never built. The unused VIN numbers were from 24,001 to 28,000.[*]1973 front bumpers were changed to meet federal 5-mph standards.[*]1973 rear bumpers remained chrome, the last year a corvette would have any chrome on the bumpers.[*]Exterior colors for the 1973 Corvette were:

You would think, that after Chevy saw how collectable these things were going to be... say about 1955 or so... they would have kept more long term accurate records (that weren't quite so flammable). For anything before 1980 the Corvette Museum is a total waste of time. I have tried to get info from them on my 73, and they seem annoyed that I would ask such trivial questions to take up their time. What exactly do they do there again? All of the books I have show 1970 as the last year (code 900) until 1977 (code 19) that black was available. I would be willing to bet that the original owner wanted a black 73, and was willing to pay extra for it. If the ID tag on the driver side forward jam shows black as the original color... you have a special Vette... and I mean that in a good way... not like it needs a helmet or after school help...
