A little more hp than stock?

Since I am not building a hotrod but would like a little more power I have this question.
My L82 needs rebuilding but need to bore the engine . I want to do a larger cam swap
and the bore will be .030 over. Will have a three angle valve grind with original heads and add
a set of headers using original aluminum intake and Qjet. Anyone have an idea of possible
horsepower gains with stated changes? Thanks

I did a .030" over bore on mine and added a roller cam and roller tip rockers. I also put in 11:1 pistons which should give me about 10:1 CR with the standard L82 heads. I haven't fired it up yet since it's still out of the car while I rebuild the front suspension. I'm guessing maybe 50 HP at best. I plan to run my nest of snakes headers initially until I get tired of the noise and then go back to my factory side exhaust.

What year did they use an aluminum intake with a Qjet?

I can’t say this is a factory setup on my 79 just that it is what is with my engine. I pulled the engine last week and had a broken pushrod and one badly pitted cylinder. After looking at the parts I think someone rebuilt it and did something wrong
parked the car 15 years ago and decided they were getting rid of it last month .Voile! I now own a project. Thanks for info which if the heads are okay probably stay with them and if not I will upgrade. I like the 50 hp boost idea.

I wonder how they broke a pushrod. I know that I broke a couple of valve springs Auto crossing over the years but then I discovered that the L-82 was using the stock passenger car valve spring instead of the high performance one.

I didn't know that you could get a small block aluminum manifold that fit a Qjet. I look for one several years ago but had no luck finding one.

This should really help understand what is going on. I accepted the guys word about being original and now
I know .......the engine is out of a 69 Z-28 with a 302c.i. engine. With all the work needed on the engine, I will get a crate 350

Probably the best move in terms of both getting a good engine and not spending a lot of money rebuilding the other one.

For some reason I thought the Z28 302 engine came with a Holley square bore carburetor. You think that's the original 302 manifold on the engine you have?

Funny you ask, after I saw the block I started checking all the # and the intake and Qjet was original equipment on the 79 vette. Depending on the engine I go with I may use them. After recently moving here to Oklahoma
from Mo. I was told there are no vehicle inspection so it really gives me a lot of options.

Boy did I learn something after all of these years that there is a small, block, Q-jet intake manifold. From what I could glean off the inter-web, it was used on '78-'79 Z-28 and L-82 Corvettes. If I didn't already have the engine assembled, I might go get one.

Looks like they go for about $250 w/ shipping.
