Ok experts, here's one for you...

Guys,

So the last thing on my rebuild is the steering wheel. I just took it off and can't get it back on. It seems that the wheel's center won't go deep enough to engage the spline on the column but the wheel's outer shroud is located where is was before I took the wheel off. Also I put a small bit of grease on the column's stop and it ended up on the steering wheel's center piece. I conclude from these points that the location where the steering wheel assembly's center piece bottoms out on the shaft has move upward preventing the wheel's center from engaging the spline. Is this possible? If so how do I fix it?

As a side note with an Allen Wrench I removed from the center of the top of the column a small Allen screw (?). I've taken the wheel off before and had no problem putting it back on. But now that I removed that little Allen screw, I can't. Don't know if the two are related.

THANKS!!

Mark

Sorry I can't help you but you might post the year of your Corvette for others that might be able to help.

Sorry. I thought I posted in the C3 Forum.

The car is a 74

You did but the Sharks had different steering wheels over the span of 15 years.

I don't know if the mounting methods changed during that time though.
