One eyed Wonder?
One headlight door opens when I start the car. All vaccumme lines are in tact.
Any pointers? |
RE: One eyed Wonder?
Hmmm... the headlight door opens when the headlight switch is off? Probably a headlight switch, or shorted connection there. or... Only one headlight opens when the car is started and the headlight switch is on? Probably a headlight vacuum actuator, or sticky moving parts (WD40 is your friend) on the non-opening side. I just replaced the bulb pans and chrome trim rings on my headlights last weekend, and you would not believe the crud and corrosion that can accumulate behind those headlight bezels!! 30 minutes to replace the pans and rings, 60 minutes cleaning up the guts of the assemblies underneath. bill. |

Headlight sw. is off. Most of the time the other one will come up too, but not always.

RE: One eyed Wonder?
Check the headlight switch terminals for corrosion, then start tracing the wires to the headlights. :) Sounds like it might be a "corrosive bridge short" somewhere along the line. Corrosion (especially from brassed or zinc'd connectors) can bridge what used to be clear space between wires, spades, and connectors... Same goes for a bent spade or connector. Other option would be that perhaps one of the wires has rubbed through insulation, causing intermittent or vairiable voltage shorts (explaining the "sometimes" on the second headlight). If you turn the headlight switch to "on" (with one up), does the second one come up? bill. |
