Pertronix Ignitor III install on 1970 vette

Pertronix 71181 Ignitor III and 44011 coil Installation Help
Looking for advice. So I have been told, Original hot wire to coil may be a resistive type. Meaning lower than 12 v are supplied to coil. I have heard this will not work with pertronix.
I have heard there may be a transition to transitor type ignition for my vette (1970 454 LS5 option with automatic)
Is that correct? If so, How do I determine that ?
What I do know is the distributor is original (mech tach drive) with points.
Any guidance , pictures , web sites or even ytube would be of great help

Welcome to the forum. The resistive wire to the coil was to limit the current through the points in order to reduce the burning of the points. The resistive wire was bypassed during the start cycle in order to allow maximum spark to help start a cold engine. You could replace the resistive wire with a regular wire to satisfy the requirements for the electronic ignition
