Power steering
 

I've got to admit I don't know much about corvettes. I use to own and work on a lot of Chevy cars when I was younger. A friend of mine recently acquired a 1969 vette with a 350ci 350hp 4 speed. We are in the process of fixing the minor problems on it. It doesn't have power steering and he is hoping that it is something that we can add fairly cheap. I am wondering if a pump, bracket and a power steering gear box off of another make Chevy that could be more easily found at a salvage yard would possibly fit in his vette. Thanks

Personally, I would ge with what belongs there, as far as the powere steering.
These parts are available thru various suppliers.
Replace with new or reconditioned. Fewer probs down the road.
By the time you find a subtitute, and rebuild it, you'll have more time and $ invested than neccessary.

I agree with C3Starship, I've converted a couple of manual steerings on C3s. If you want the least amout of hassle you can buy a complete conversion kit from Ecklers and many other places for around $800.00. Your other option is E-Bay. There seems to be used set-ups anywhere from $150.00 to $300.00. Some have pump & brackets with them , some don't. Big block brackets & hoses can run $150..00 plus.

Engled, I put a conversion kit on my 69 raodster. Bought it from Smart Parts in Mason City, Il. Gave $500.00 for the complete kit at the St. Charles Bloomington Gold show. I mean complete kit! Even power steering fluid. Drove my car 304 miles and developed a leak in the slave cylinder. Told them about it and they sent me a new cylinder free with a return postage paid label. Steering works great now. You must always listen to the hard core vetters. But, my advice is; "If ya got a great "numbers" car, keep it that way. If it's a driver, get the kit. Enjoy driving what ya got. The power steering is a big improvement. j
