Question about heating

The car I am looking at doesn't have the heater working. A/C is good but no heat. The owner told me that when the old motor was pulled and all the emission reducing parts were removed that this also means that the heat won't work. It has straight pipesright now. I'd like to get the heat working even though I live in Florida. If i can't get it to work I am not too worried. I have heard that the C3's are hot in the drivers area anyway so I should be alright, but I like everything working on my cars. So any idea what the guy is talking about. I am not sure how the emissions stuff works together with the car heater and if this is the case how can I get the heat working? Any guesses?

RE: Question about heating

You don't mention what year it is, but... at least on 78 to 82 C3s, the heater has nothing at all to do with emissions. It is a pretty standard in-out from the water pump and intake, with a vacuum powered cut-off valve to shut down the circulation to the heater core. He (or a previous owner) most likely had a bad heater core and disconnected it rather than fixing it... If the heater hoses are still there and connected, you can try just replacing the cut-off valve, they get stuck fairly often.

bill.

RE: Question about heating

It is an 80 so thanks for the info. Shouldn't be too difficult to fix hopefully
