NICE! Tell us a little about it.

RE: SCHOONS 69 Z28
I bought it 4 years ago and it didn't look like it does now.
Did a complete frame-off restoration 2 years ago along with new everything. When I bought it there was an old 327 engine in it that was on it' last leg so I dropped a special order high performance GM 350 crate motor in it but pulled it back out and pumped it up to 480HP. It has a M22 Trans and a 4:10 posi rear. The interior is new and the paint GM 2003 Electron Blue with a touch of pearl. My Vet is my driver/fun car and this one is a Sunday mornig cruiser and show car. Gets about 3-5 miles per/gal on highway. The picture below is the way the engine was when I got it and if the other shows up that's the way it is now. Thanks for asking! RE: SCHOONS 69 Z28
Looks nice! :)
Hope you kept the old engine if it was original. Especially the valve covers. They're pretty pricey now. Glad you got the pic thing figured out. |
RE: SCHOONS 69 Z28
The engine was not the real deal not even the right size.
I sold what ever I could that wasn't original. If I ever want to put the car back to or close to original I would need to find a correct date 302 engine and repaint the car to dusk blue. The reason I bought it was because of the price and I could do what I wanted to it with out loosing value. Turns out when finished it is very nice and people like old and new together. I have had offers of 70k and one for 85k this year. Car will be my sons some day so it's not for sale. |

How lucky can you be!
Congratulations!
Your car looks Great! Most people are happy with just 1 classic, you have 2 and a trophy winner at that. Enjoy, PG. |
RE: How lucky can you be!
Hay PG,
Let me tell you I am not a rich person! I got a good deal on the Camaro and a better deal on the Vet. I bought the Vet because I was told my Camaro would be in the shop for 3-4 years getting a complete restoration. So now I had the Vet and I was ready to drop of the Camaro when a friend of mine who restores old cars called me up and said he had a slot for me. He finished it in 5 months, did a fantastic joband charged me half the price as the other place. So I lucked out all the way. Schoon |
RE: How lucky can you be!
Aint no Vette... but it will do... just kidding! FanTasTic!! I had a 69 SS with the 350hp 350 in it. One of the fastest and sweetest cars I have ever owned. Wish I could find another someday. Wife sez I have to go to the dark side though... she wants a 69 Mach I, preferably with a 428 or a 429... whatever it takes!!! Just call me Mr. Mom!

RE: How lucky can you be!
Mustangs are nice I have owned a couple but I like Camaros.
It's very hard to compare a Camaro to a Vet. Vet's handle so much better and provide a more comfortable ride. Camaros used to be called a poor man's Vet, might still be. I always wanted 69Z28 and it took me 35 years to get one. Cost a lot to get it my way but it was worth it. Now it's time to start messing aroung with my 74Vet. I am not going all out on this one just want to make it into a nice driver. Schoon |
