seat belt

hey guys whats up.
while pulling the old carpet out of my 74 vette the seat belt box that is behind the pass. seat came apart, (the blue part that holds the spring thing that pulls the belt back) is there any way to recoil this thing? the only place I found a new one was on Ecklers, its a set of two whole seat belt systems, for $500.00. If I can fix it I'd much rather do that then pay that kind of money for both when the drivers works fine. any help would be great!

When it comes to seat belts I woouldn't mess around with trying to repair your existing one. There is not a lot of protection in these cars as it is. With all the big vehicles on the road today I didn't want to take a chance that a repair would work when needed. I opted to replace mine and I'm glad I did. Not only are they engineered better than the old, they also give me a more comfortable feeling that they will perform when and if they are needed. Just my two cents worth.

I agree w/ Watwheel. But you might try to find a used one in good condition at a salvage yard.

You can get 93 to 02 rear seat belts from a Camaro or Firebird in most colors at a junk yard for very few dollars or even new replacements from GM for way less than than the vendors charge for "so called original" replacements. PG.
