Speedometer cable leak

I'm leaking transmission fluid from the speedometer cable. Looking at the cable and cable gear assembly I don't see how it wouldn't leak. The way the gear fits into the housing there appears to be no seal that would keep fluid from making it's way up into the cable. Am I missing something?

Welcome to the forum.
I would check the level of the transmission fluid or oil depending on which type of transmission you have. It sounds like it might be overfilled.

Through further investigation (Google Search) I believe I found the problem. It appears that the previous owner replaced the seals on the speedo gear bullet and didn't seat the gear shaft seal far enough in so the gear shaft is not in full contact with the seal. I haven't put it back together yet to verify the fix but it appears this is a somewhat common problem.

Thank you for the response.

Before and after

The attached pictures are before and after of the speedometer bullet gear shaft seal. It's easy to see were things went wrong.
