Strange electrical thing

I found this attached to the brake light switch wiring,it was obviously added on by the P.O. Any idea why?

Mot

Looks like a capacitor. Which would store 200 milliamperes to start an electric motor

It is indeed a capacitor. Not sure why he would add it to the brake light circuit though. Is it wired in series or in parallel with the brake light switch?

It is attached to both wires going to the stoplight switch. One end is attached to the orange wire and the other is attached to the white wire. I am going to remove it as I have some other issues that I will post in a different thread.

OMG!!! I'm installing the electrical on my wife's 70 and it has the exact same thing. Hers seems to have a 73 wiring harness hacked into it so I thought someone must have added it. Hope someone has an answer, I also am going to take it out. I don't see it in the wiring diagram for a 70 or 73.

The only purpose I could see for the capacitor in the brake light circuit would be as a spike suppressor. But I'm not sure why someone would add it if it wasn't part of the factory system.
