vacuum problems

hello fellow c3 owners, i have finally made the jump from a 1994 coupe to a 1971 coupe, i am extremely happy with the car, i love the smells, the rattles, everything...however the car is running very rough and i think it is a vacuum leak. try to follow me here, while the car is running everything works fine, lights/wiper door/wipers..everything, but when i shut the car off the lights pop open and the wiper door pops open, and when i disconnect the main vacuum line i dont get so much as a hiss, i really think this has alot to do with the car running rough too....any advice on where to start looking for the leak???? thanks in advance

RE: vacuum problems

I am not able to answer your question about the vacuum problem. I do have a 72 coupe and it does the same thing that your 71 is doing. When I turn off the ignition, the left headlight cover and the windshield cover will pop-up. All that I have to do is crank the car and both items retract as they are supposed to. What is strange, this does not happen everytime that the ignition is truned off. I have purchased a new vacuum kit for the headlights and wipers, but have not gotten around to instaling. If we are having this problem, I am sure that others have confronted this situation and will be able to advise.
