I know the VIN is stamped on the right front corner of the engine block and on the kick up of the rear frame over the axle on the driver side. I believe there are least two other places but I'm not familiar with their location.

ok i guess that makes sense for a vette. but he claims the numbers are on every engine par. in fact yesterday when i was changing out the harmonic balancer for him i looked at the driver side head on the back toward the firewall and read an s number and said that is the serial number.

anyway i changed out the balancer and he drove it and said he thinks it is still there. but he told me the steering wheel shook real bad when the vibration starts and i did not see or feel anything myself. so i'm leaning towards the vibration he feels is just the engine shaking on the power cycles.

but thanks for that help with the numbers.

Not sure what the number was on the head but I doubt that it had anything to do with the VIN. I know for a fact that the Corvette VIN is stamped on the right front corner of the block.

thanks for that help

You're welcome. I forgot to mention that if the block has ever been decked, the stamped VIN may have been machined off. There are places that rent the stamping kit so the block can be restamped.. They are accepted by NCRS. Of course bad guys can also use them to produce a non-original original car.

Can anyone tell me where to find a site that can decode my VIN# on my 1969 Vet? The decoder on this site starts at 1981 I think

Welcome to the forum. Might try the NCRS website.

CORVSPORT.COM ! Very good site for finding information about your vette. And yes you will even find information about all those numbers stamped on your engine block, heads, carburetor, alternator, and axle ID number. Hell they even can tell you when your vette was born ! Enjoy the information
