Waking up a 79' L82 that has been sitting for 10 years. Reccomendations?

Hello all,

Ive been givin the task of getting a family members 79 Vette L82 up and running again. The car has been sitting for 10 years and nothing was wrong with it before it went into storage. What would you reccomend on replacing/checking out before starting it for the first time in 10 years, should any gaskets be replaced or looked at?

So far I plan on changing all the fluids out, engine oil, tranny, diff..etc.

Brakes for one plus the lines, have a good look at the power steering system as well. Clean the thing up, polish then wax. Problems with your cooling system have a way of finding you plus the heater hoses. Nice to know ya got new plugs and wires. When I got my 76 it had lots of rattles inside and there were a few lamps out in the gauges. I did have some dry rot vacume lines. Most all EZ things to do with just some time. Will you get to drive the car?

There was a decent episode on DIY about checking out a car before starting it after it has been in storage.

Two suggestions:

1. Light on fire.

2. Call insurance company.

You might concider pulling the fuel tank and giving it a good flushing. Also, remove, dismantle, clean and install new gaskets in the carb. Change valve cover, timing gear cover and oil pan gaskets. Check brake system out. Dead time is an enemy to all seals and gaskets as they tend to dry out and will most likely leak.
Attention to these details will save on headaches later on.
