what to buy...
 

hey guys/ladies! first post. I have always been attracted to the older style vettes, and now my chance has come to purchase one. I always liked the c3's, so naturally i went searching for a forum. this one. I've got about $ 8k to spend on the car. what are some do's and donts about purchasing a c3? Ive read through the searches on what to look for, but i was looking for some more specific things. I am not very educated on the vettes so if anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. In addition, this vette will have to put up with being a my daily driver (on average 30-40 miles a day). Does anyone think this is not possible? like i said earlier i am ignorant when it comes to vettes, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi and welcome,
I would not recomend buying a C3 fora daily driver. These cars have been around for quite awhile and need TLC. I have a 74 and I am working on it every weekend due to little and sometimes big things that go wrong. If you do buy one and you are not able to fix it yourself make sure you have a good mechanic that knows all about Vets. Also, make sure you have a lot of extra cash.
My advice is save your money and buy a newer one. I have seen some really nice late model C4 Vets in the 10-12k range.

Any car should have reular maint. Yes, the C3 is at least 24 yrs old and any car that old will need some type of work done. It's a labor of love that does pay off. Dayly driver? If you keep it in shape it'll do fine.

I agree with the previous posters. It is not the best plan to make a 25-30 old car a daily driver. If you do you need to be prepared to have regular repairs. Regular repairs are not a good thing on a daily driver.

At that age many of a cars systems begin to break down and need repair and replacement. If you can do the work yourself it can be rewarding and if you can't it can be expensive. Older Corvettes make great fun or weekend cars but as primary daily transportation it is probably not the best decision.

I drive my 80 on a daily basis and have very few problems. Its great fun to drive a C3 I always get questions at every stop. The few mechanical problems I have had are well worth it. If you prefer a C3 get one you cant go wrong.
