What's it worth?

Any ideas on what a 350/350 motor is worth? I've got a '70 Vette motor, block cast #3970010 4 bolt main in a 80 CJ5 off roader. The block and heads are original, but the carb/intake and cam have been changed. Just a wee bit too much horsepower for the CJ... it'll lift the front a good 12" on takeoff. I might sell the rig for a newer, more streetable Jeep, but thought the engine might fit a 70 vette that needed an era correct motor. Any input?
Thanks,
Wedge

RE: What's it worth?

Depending on condition of course, mileage, etc., a complete running 350 would start around 500. Of course, what intake and carb can make a dif. If it has the original "Corvette" valve covers, thatwill add some value. If it is a fresh build, maybe around 900 to 1200 depending on parts used. Showpapers on work done,if you can. It's hard to get your rebuild money back, since people can't disassemble the engine to check the parts. When you decide to sell it, leave it in the Jeepso you can let people hear it run. Ya might even take 'em for a ride. Let them get a "taste", so to speak.
Oh ya, if it leaks any oil, is dirty, or smokes, that will drop the price. Clean it up.
Ya might even change a few gaskets.
Just my opinion, don't cha know. :)

Hey wedge, Starship said it all-I agree on his estimate of value. The block is a very common casting # that GM used from 1968-1986 in everything from Vette's to medium-duty trucks, it is a real good block but the heads might hold the key to value of the engine. Check out the head casting and use it to your advantage.
