Not sure on an 81 but my 72 has the same problem. ended up replacing the main wiper switch and the overide switch under the dash. Since you don't have power at the motor, try running power directly from the battery to the wiper motor. If the wipers work, you probably have a bad switch. Got mine from Ecklers.

thanks for the responce I have bench tested the motor and it works and I am having a hard time getting the dash and spedo cluster to coperate so I think it is the switch too but going to take some time to get it out

any other help would be greatly appreciated

So i got the dash apart and through some work got it all figured out head light instrument light and wipers all work now. had to take the switch apart and clean it and installed a new light switch but it all works now. on to the next problem AC wont switch to the vent or defrost. the motor blows cold just only on the feet I am pretty sure that the selector is fed from vacume but can't find the hose to see if it is lose any ideas?

One end of the hose is at the control head in the console. Not sure where the other end is but probably teed into a line near the manifold.
