Which year c3 to buy?

I've been a fan of the C3s for a long time, and I am now in the position to purchase one. But I am not sure which year to really focus on looking for. I don't need the $25000 show car...I'm looking for one that I can drive and enjoy yet perhaps show up to an occassional show with. Any suggestions out there-benefits/drawbacks to certain years? I appreciate your feedback and will share my journey and hopefully celebrate with you when I buy one!

Personally, I chose a 1980 C3. I would have bought any previous year, as long as it was a pre 'puter C3. I just happened to get a good deal on the '80, the last year before the use of 'puters.
I like being able to do my own tune ups, something ya really can't do with a 'puter on board.

I'm excited for ya. Happy shopping!

eborne: Welcome to the forum.

Best advice I can offer is to educate yourself as much as possible on what to look for. These cars are 30-40 years old and many have seen multiple owners. Also try to find an expert to go w/ you to look at any prospects.

I have to echo the comments above. Make sure that you take a close look at the car you are interested in. C3's are notorious for having the frames rot in half in the rear of the car. An area to pay close attention to is area right behind the doors where the frame kicks up for the rear suspension. I saw one break in half at that spot and it was not a pretty sight. When the frame let loose, it dropped in front of teh rear wheels and busted the body in half. You can find decent driver C3's in the $10,000 to $15,000 range. Even those will need some TLC. Good Luck with your quest.
