1985 will not start

I have a 1985 Corvette and have recently been unable to start it. When I attempted to start the car after replacing the starter there was still nothing, but interestingly enough when I put the car in neutral and turned the key the car started right up. I have been driving the car and it starts fine as long as its in neutral but if I put the car in park the car will not start. Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thanks.

with out a doubt the problem is either a unpluged or bad neutral saftey switch go back under the car and look for unpluged wires at the transmission if no unpluged wires are found get a new switch once you see the switch the are easy to put in.

RE: 1985 will not start

Like I said I recently relaced the starter on my vette and it has been starting fine as long as I start it in neutral, but today when I attemped to start the car the starter began turning and would not stop. Even after I removed the key the starter continnued to turn and I was only able to get it to stop after I disconnected the battery. On returning home from work today I attemped to reconnect the battery but as soon as I touched the negative cable back to the terminal the starter began running again. If anyone knows whats going on please help. Also is it possible that the two problems are connected? Thanks for your help.

that sounds like something is wrong with the starter solenoid, if it wont stop cranking until unplug the battery. since you replaced the starter, im assuming u replaced the solenoid too. Check to make sure you connected your wires correctly.
