1989 Vette runs to hot for me
Hey guys, I just bought a 1989 Corvette. It only has 72,000 and is a beauty! My question is, during in-town driving, the fan doesn't turn on till 225! Is this normal? It seems hot to me. I had a 1985 Vette and it always stayed at 200. The oil temp gets right up there too! On the freeway it runs cool, but takes awhile for the oil temp to come down if it is hot. Thanks for your help!

ORIGINAL: raisinbran yup thats perfectly normal. just remember these engines were designed to run hot I am not so sure about that - thats an L98 in a 1989 - are you sure an L98 should run that hot? Now the LT1 does run that hot. |

RE: 1989 Vette runs to hot for me
I believe that if GM wanted the engine to run cooler, they would make the fans come on sooner, or just stay on all the time. My coolant temp has never gotten above 229 except when the waterpump failed. All L98s came with the fans programmed to come on at the same time, and I dont believe any failures have resulted with those coolant temps.
