87 hood release

My hood is sticking. IE: i pull the release and it does not open, If I pull the release and at the same time exert a little pressure upward it will come up and then open as normal. Cables and releases look fine and everything is well lubed. 2 questions, could the springs on the hood need replaced ? 2. There are what look like screw driver cuts on the end of the shafts on the hood, are they somehow adjustable? Thanks

Sounds like the shafts are out of adjustment. Yes the slot in the end is an adjustment there's a locknut on the shaft at the top where it enters the mounting plate. The plate also has slots that allow it to move around to center the shaft in the latch. Possibly a close inspection of the socket might show where the shaft is binding not allowing the spring to pop it up when you release the catch. My 84 is doing the same thing,I've adjusted it but haven't hit the sweet spot yet.

Great, thanks. I'll get right on that. Something easy and cheap, now that's unusual.

Try putting white grease on the stricker/shaft & close hood reopen & check the area is hitting & adjust latch
