87 running terrible

my 87 convertible was running great cruising down hwy 99 here in Washington then all the sudden it started to run reall bad lost power and started sputtering. Took it home changed plugs cap and rotor and coil. I have only had the car a couple months and new to corvettes any way its still running bad. The injectors have been loud since I bought the car should this be my next option to fixing this thing?? or should I take it to a dealer and let them take a look

Your injectors are loud?[&:]

my injectors tick lound enough that its annoying none of the other fuel injected cars I have owned make an audible clicking like these.

You need to check the basics 1st, like fuel pressure, trouble codes, timing. How many miles on the car? Is it black smoking @ idle? You could have lost fuel pump pressure, Mass Air flow sensor, coolant sensor, oxygen sensor. Hard to diagnose this one without some info.

What do you think Mech, fuel pressure too high?, have'nt heard of electronic injectors making noise.

RE: 87 running terrible

All fuel injectors make some sort of noise because all they are is basically a solenoid that opens and closes with a metal pintle contacting a metal seat. Newer versions with newer designs in machining techniques and spring pressures have quieted them down, but they still are gonna make some noise if you listen close enough. All the older L98 engines make noise if you get close enough to listen. That is part of a diagnostic routine to determine misfires. I use a stethoscope to listen to see if they all sound the same or not at all.

I have not checked the fuel pressure I will try that next. The ijectors make enough nose that you can hear them clearly with the hood closed and over the sound of the exaust

Well to diagnose them properly, you would need to perform an injector balance check. To do that, though, you would need a pressure gauge and an injector tester that can fire the injectors to measure pressure drop on each injector. All injectors should have no more than a half pund difference in pressure drop. If one drops more then it is to rich, less means to lean.
