'89 Antenna Mast Replacement

Howdy, folks...new to the forum but I've had my '89 since new. Antenna mast needs replaced
but the instructions from Mid America don't seem to make sense, ie. the supplied little wrench
fits nothing, etc. I can't seem to get the old mast out of the tube. I'm afraid to be too agressive for fear of messing something else up or scratching surrounding finish, etc. Don't want to soak with WD40 for fear of making everything too slick. Seems like it should be so easy but the darn thing just won't budge. Any tips will be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

RE: '89 Antenna Mast Replacement

Well in most cases, replacing broken mast requires disassembling old antenna to get the broken pieces of the old mast out. Then you can insert new mast into old assembly (back together) and turn radio on then off and it will pull new mast back in if you motor is still good. A/C Delco make a replacement antenna, but not an exact fit, you have to work with it a bit.

RE: '89 Antenna Mast Replacement

I purchased the whole antenna unit from MidAmerica. When I went to install it looked at all the issues and motor on the original was working fine. Took motor apart from bottom and just used the mast from the new unit. Works fine. Bought a new mast and put it to my new unit, just one more spare part for the 89.
