90 coupe won't start sometimes

Hi guys, i have seen a lot of posts about C4's not starting, but mine is a little different. Every once in a while, my 90 coupe won't start.( About once every two or three weeks). I try to start it, and it does nothing, doesn't even make a sound. I've tried all three of my keys and also moving the shifter back and forth but it doesn't help. My battery booster pack won't even do anything for it, but if i jump it off a running car it will start right up. Could my starter have a bad spot and need extra voltage to start? Could the solenoid have bad contacts and occasionally not connect good enough to start? (assuming it is clicking and i just can't hear it) thanks for any help you guys can give me!

also, does anybody know for sure if the 90 model has a starter enable relay? if so, is it behind the driver info center and which one is it? thanks for any help!

Your starter has a bad spot...which is a sign that its going bad. the solenoid is mounted on the starter. If you ever get caugh stranded, you can hit the starter with a hammer and it will be good as new...well almost.

The jumpered battery provides more current which the bad spot on your armature of starter requires to push the current through to the starter.

RE: 90 coupe won't start sometimes

hey guys, my starter wouldn't do anything the other day, and i checked and i was getting some kind of voltage to the purple solenoid wire. i jumped a wire from the battery to this wire and it started right up, so i mounted a relay in front of the battery, cut the purple wire and ran it to the relay to turn it on when i turned the key to the start position, then i ran a fused wire straight from the battery to the supply side of the relay, and hooked the purple wire going to the solenoid to the other side of the relay.i also grounded the relay under a bolt on my master cylinder. now my car starts every time!

The purple wire is the starter signal from your ignition switch. When it won't start, are you getting dash lights and electrical? Could be your key reader built into you ignition tumbler, part of your antitheft system or your ignition switch. Need to have codes pulled to see if it is setting a code for the reader or security system.
