92 cooling fans are still on the run

I have checked the following and still can not find the reason why the rad cooling fans are on all the time the engine is running .. Here are some of teh conditions I have tried ...... the A/c is off, engine is cold, digital to analog (temp & oil temp) readings are OK (IE read the same) .. voltage is good .. no codes stored in ECM .. removed the A/c fuse fans still ran, removed the 10 amp gage fuse and fans did not run .. the cooling fan relays are good .. something is telling the ECM to turn the fans on .. and the ECM is in fact tunring the fans on .. (as proven when checking the cooling fan relay pins) .. I need some major help with this one any ideas??

To properly diagnose that one, you need to have a scan tool to look at inputs to the ECM to determine why the fan is on. Things like A/C "on" request from your dash switch, coolant temp from the CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor), High pressure cutout, which I am not sure if ECM looks at that. ECM looks at a few things to determine if it wants the cooling fan on. It does that by grounding the control circuit on the relay.[8D]

I'm curious.... is this something that has just happened or has it been that way since you bought the car?

I ordered the cable for the data link between my laptop and the car and am looking at the software too .. you are right I need to see what the ECM is seeing and that way maybe can find out what is causing the fans to run all the time .......... I have only had this car for about two weeks and never paid any attention to the fan issue until "wham" why do they run all the time /// my mind must have been in time delay

I'm guessing the ECM has nothing to do with it and the cooling fan relay has been altered so the fans run whenever the engine is on. My 92 runs hot as most do.

Devo might have hit on something too. Your cooling fan relay is on the driver fender well just below the master cylinder. Check around and see if someone might have hooked power to the fan direct when key is on. Then check the ground side of the relay with a test light clipped to the positive side of the battery. This will tell you if the relay is grounded on the control side if the light lights up.

Yep, mine is setup just like that... we found out last week... the relay burnt out on us and we had it replaced. Now, she's runnin' perfect again. I don't mind having the fan running all the time, keeps her cooler.
