93 LT1 ELECTRICAL

Hi everyone... My name is Johnny and I live in the Chicago suburb of North Riverside... I bought a 93, Polo Green and Saddle, LT1 coupe in July with 52k miles... The car is in extra-beauty shape and runs very well... I have but 1 small problem:eek:... The utility/cigarette lighter doesn't work... I don't smoke, but like to charge my cell phone or have a radar detector running on the highway... I went to the fuse panel and found 2 bare wires sticking out of the bottom of the panel... 1 green and 1 red(maybe orange)... HOLY 911 Batman... What the heck is going on here??? 2+2 added together comes up with these wires being for the lighter plug but what in the world are they doing searching like plant roots, and more importantly how do I correct the problem... I've looked in Haynes and Chiltons and they are both like reading a plate of spaghetti... That brings me here, seeking on bended knees, the advise of the almighty Corvett Sages... Oh please almighty and powerful OZ...

Trace the wires to the origin. Pull out the cigarette lighter area and see where all the wires lead and check for cuts, loose/unplugged ones and then follow them to the loose ones. Bound to come upon something. We are jus shooting blanks as to where they go without going into the inside of the car. Good luck...

Do you have power across the cigar lighter fuse? Should have power at all times across fuse. If it does then you are losing it between fuse and lighter and accessory plug as they are both on the same fuse. [8D]

you can get a factory service manual for your car. It has all the wiring diagrams you need along with the colors. But the cigar lighter i thought, atleast in my 86 was on the same fuse with a lot of other accessories, like the radio, lights, stuff like that. have you checked the lighter socket with a voltmeter?

I'll check that ASAP... What is the difference between the lighter and accessory plug??? I'm referring to the plug, next to the shifter and ashtray...

Nothing really, just an additional port to plug in radar detector, charger for cell, etc...

I only have the one port, unless it's somewhere besides the center console... I've never been in the passenger seat before so that's entirely uncharted territory for me...

I use to have a 94 and my cigar lighter never worked either, I just never got around to tracing the wire. Its funny I rebuilt the LT-1 myself, and did some other crazy stuff, but fixing the cigar lighter just seemed so difficult to find motivation to do it:eek::)
