ABS inop

Hi all,
I have an 86 coupe. The antilock brake light stays on upon start-up. This just started... the system was operating properly until yesterday.
Now, after start-up, the system does not even do the "self-check" process. The light doesn't turn off and on again, it just stays on.
There's plenty of into in this forum for me to start checking this out. My question is, since it's not even getting to the point of "self-checking", what is the likely culprit? Fuses? Relays?

Any ideas/suggestions would help me streamline my troubleshooting process.

Thanks.

Ed

RE: ABS inop

Your going to have to go to a shop that can hook up to the car and read what the computer is saying about the abs . If your lucky it will be a wheel speed sensor, which you can change yourself. From research I found this problem is common and this should no interfer w/ normal braking. By chance my brother is driving around for months w/ the same problem because he is too lazy to fix it.

86 model's are not capable of diagnostics. All you can do is circuit checks. More than likely, either your main power relay is bad or the ABS unit is. The main unit is very hard to find (one that works). Mine was bad on my 86, I just unplugged the power leads to it, no light, but no ABS.

RE: ABS inop

I guess I'll start with the main power relay. Hope that works, if not.... how do I check the main ABS unit to see if it's inop?
