Acceleration Concern

I recently purchased an 86 coupe. I bought it from a man who had owned the car for 12 years. However recently all he had been driving it to was his mailbox. The car runs and starts fine. Within the first few days after i purchased the vette i noticed that at any speed i could push down on the accelerator and notice a great sense of power and acceleration. However now when i do that it dosent seem to haveas much "umph". My suspession would be the fuel injectors are clogged? Could there be any other possibilites? I'm taking it to our neighbor to put new valve covers on. What should i ask him to look at? I'm very new to car engines and specifics. Any feedback is greatly appertiated.

You do not give a lot to go on, but...

Check ignition timing.
Check for stored trounble codes, on the 86 you only need a jumper wire to connect the top 2 right terminlals on the data link connector.
Make sure you have fresh premium gas.
Test fuel pressure.
BTW, once you start to get used to it , no car ever seems as fast as when you first drove it! ;-)

The obvious first, fuel and air filters. Restricted fuel filter will certainly change the performance characteristics. [8D]

Hi,my friend.Has your car been properly tuned? Maybe you should give it a good tune-up,just in case. And also remember to check your fuel filter and maybe replace it as well.It seems if this car was never really driven, some things will deteriorate even if it has low miles.Always keep your car properly tuned, and it will last you forever!! Your friend, Joe.

One thing you will not notice is you have probably gotten used to the power the car genrates. You may still have the same get up and go that you did have its just that now your not as tunes into the way it performs. I know when I first got mine it would fly but as I have got used to the way it performs it doesn't feel like it is as fast as it was. I ran it at the local track when I got it a year ago and ran it two weeks ago, its still there.
